We invite talented undergraduate STEAM students to participate in the 4th consecutive edition of the VMH Virtuome summer research programme with 67 alumni and 777 community contributors to date! Virtuome is based on the 3 pillars of biocomputational research, personal development, and engaged research and is centred around tackling challenging projects via cross-functional teams. The research activities will be complemented by seminars from thought leaders in academia, industry, charities, and policymaking, and activities involving early-stage career development, mentoring, and science communications, to help participants become well-rounded scientists and get ahead in their career journey.
Virtuome will run from Monday 22nd May to Friday 14th July 2023 (8 weeks) fully online.

Virtuome is open to current undergraduate students in the science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and arts (STEAM) subjects at a university on the island of Ireland (IE & NI), and internationally. In a digital-first approach, programme participants are immersed in a systematic team environment to accelerate biocomputational research, personal development, and community involvement, to tackle current challenges in digital health, particularly human and microbiome metabolism. Virtuome provides participants with the opportunity to develop personally and professionally, foster a diverse professional network, and develop new skills for their future careers, including through critical thinking by tackling scientific challenges, knowledge of international cutting-edge digital health research, and developing essential interpersonal skills through interdisciplinary teamwork, to develop a portfolio of tangible outcomes. We also provide a platform to engage with further endeavours, such as co-authorship on publications, presentation of project outcomes at international scientific meetings, and establishment of a diverse professional network.
Participants are competitively selected based on their application. Virtuome is free of charge. Participants are expected to commit full-time for the 8-week programme during normal working hours and have access to their own desktop/laptop computer and stable internet connection.
